What is the difference between West Michigan Spay and Neuter Clinic and a traditional veterinary practice?

WMSNC is a registered non-profit corporation. Members of the community can donate to the clinic to help to keep our fees as low as possible. We only do spay and neuter surgeries, and the staff are at the clinic only when surgeries are taking place. We provide the public with a reduced price rabies shot and a reduced price microchip at the time of your pet's surgery.

What is the purpose for having a non-profit spay and neuter clinic in our community?

Our purpose is to significantly reduce the number of unwanted pets in our community by preventing their birth. We want to eventually eliminate the need for thousands of dogs and cats in our area to be euthanized.

How do I call the clinic to find out about its services or to make an appointment for my pet?

Call the clinic in Fruitport at (231) 366-7067. Leave a brief message with your name and phone number, and our office manager will return your call. She will answer any questions you may have about our services and make an appointment for your pet.

Do I have to provide some sort of proof that I need reduced price services?

No, you do not.

How old does my cat or dog have to be before I can have it spayed or neutered?

A cat has to weigh a healthy 2 pounds, usually at about 12-14 weeks before it can be spayed or neutered. It is safe to alter a puppy at 4 to 6 months.

How much do you charge for your services?

We charge $90 for dogs, male or female, and $50 for cats, male or female. A one-year rabies shot is $10.00, and a microchip will be $15.00. Cash and credit cards are accepted as payment, but we cannot accept checks.

When do I have to bring my pet to the clinic to have it spayed or neutered?

Dogs and cats need to be brought to the clinic between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM. When you arrive at the clinic, leave your pet in the car and come into the clinic to sign the needed paperwork. Then you may go back to your car to bring in your pet. You can plan on this process taking fifteen to twenty minutes. Cats need to be in a carrier, and dogs need to be on a leash, wearing a snug collar.

Are there any special instructions I need to know about before I bring my pet in for surgery?

Yes. Your pet should not have anything to eat after 9:00 PM the night before surgery. Water is fine, even the morning of surgery. The exception to this rule is young kittens. Kittens under four months old may have something to eat.

When can I pick up my pet?

Dogs go home the same day of surgery, between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, depending on the number of surgeries scheduled. Cats spend the night at the clinic, and go home at 7:30 AM the morning after surgery.

How do I know that my pet is being well cared for?

The West Michigan Spay and Neuter Clinic operates in partnership with C-SNIP of Grand Rapids, a well-known non-profit spay and neuter clinic with a reputation for excellence in surgical care. Our veterinarians and vet techs are fully licensed, and are provided to us by
C-SNIP. We adhere to the highest medical standards for veterinary care. Your pet will be provided with injectable anesthesia in pre-op, and gas anesthesia during surgery. Your pet
will also be injected with two medications after surgery. One is an anti-inflammatory medication to promote healing, and the other is pain medication that lasts for about
twenty-four hours.

How will I know how to care for my pet at home after the surgery?

You will be provided with after-care instructions verbally when you pick up your pet. You will also be given after-care instruction paperwork at the time when you pick up your pet. We will provide you with a phone number to call if you have post-operative concerns.

WE'RE JUST CRAZY ABOUT CATS AND DOGS! SPENDING EVEN A SHORT TIME WITH YOUR PRECIOUS PET GIVES US A LOT OF SATISFACTION.

OUR GOAL IS FOR YOU TO LEAVE OUR CLINIC WITH THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THAT YOUR PET RECEIVED THE VERY BEST CARE, AND WILL NOT ADD TO THE LARGE POPULATION OF UNWANTED CATS AND DOGS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
